Wtf Japanese type people!?

May 22, 2012 at 4:44 am (Uncategorized)

So today I went to lunch with my girlfriend at a local family restaurant. When we entered there was nobody standing around waiting for a seat, and the sign said please seat your self. As we walked over to the last open table in the nonsmoking section, the waitress ask us if we wanted nonsmoking, and when we said yes, she directed us to the open table. We sat down and started talking a little, while we decided what to eat. This took about 5 minutes, and then we finally ordered. As we were ordering we noticed a Japanese man had come in and seemed to be arguing with one of the waitresses. We continued to watch this unfold while we waited for our food, and realize he was mad because there were no open seats in the nonsmoking section. My girlfriend and I noticed that our table was actually two tables pushed together, so we moved all of our stuff over to one side so that the staff would be able to split the tables apart and give the man a seat. Instead of happening like this, ( which is believe would have been the easiest and quickest solution for all ) the manager comes over and tells us that the Japanese man was there waiting before us (which was clearly not true because we watched him walk in a few minutes after we were already deciding our orders), and that he wants us to move to the smoking section so he can have our table. Clearly the tables could easily have been pulled apart and we could have all enjoyed our lunches in the nonsmoking area, but this wasn’t and option. So my girlfriend and I had to move to the smoking area for the rest of our lunch so this man could have a 4 person table all to himself. We were offered nothing for moving except the “we’re sorry, there’s nothing we could do” excuse. As we were leaving the man looks up at us and smirks- seriously the dude has the balls to smirk at us after we gave up our table to him. I glare back at him, and then he goes on to talk some smack I front of the entire restaurant. All I could do was laugh as I walked out the door. Seriously how does someone get like that?! How does the staff not take care of the problem themselves? Why did they pass the trouble off onto other guests who had done nothing wrong, and had nothing to do with the situation?..

iPad has arrived

April 26, 2012 at 5:33 am (Uncategorized) (, )

So my new iPad arrived last night and I have finally had a chance to play with a few new apps over my break periods today. I am completely obsessed with the Paper app by studio 53. I’ll probably be updating this blog with many of my daily drawings as time goes on. For today I will include my first attempt at drawing one of my students. I’m still getting used to drawing with this app, and the water coloring was an interesting experience.

Korean 韓国語

February 2, 2011 at 3:05 pm (Uncategorized) ()

So I have decided to start brushing up on my Korean again lately. It was hard to find any good text books back in the States, but here in Japan there are literally hundreds of them to choose from. The only problem is that they are all written in Japanese. So this time around I will be learning Korean through Japanese. It should be an interesting challenge, but the text books I piled up look really good. I will write up a review of them later on once I have used them for a while. Here’s a couple pictures of them though.

So as some of you might have heard the volcano about 19km from where I live has been erupting in spurts for the past week. I figured I’d throw up some photos of the mess!

Update!

April 16, 2010 at 8:06 pm (Uncategorized)

Hey so I haven’t been posting here at all since I got back from Japan.  Life has been pretty crazy, and very busy!!

Anyways, I have officially been short-listed for JET, and I have turned in all of my reply paperwork.  Now I am just waiting for my FBI background check to come back to me, and also my IRS form.  Hopefully I will know my placement sometime in May.

School is also going well, but I am feeling a lot of pressure this term.  I have already finished my Capstone, so now I am just finishing the last couple of classes I need.  I thought this term would be a lot easier, but all of my classes are SUPER heavy on the reading, and it seems like I am getting stuck working at one of my jobs more often.

I know I am so close to my goal of teaching in Japan, but this last month and a half of school is going to be a little rough! haha.

Anyways, I plan on posting a lot more from now on.  I am not sure if I will do all my posts in English, or if I will do some in Japanese as well.  I guess it’ll just depend on what I am feeling at the time that I am writing.

Softbank #2

July 27, 2009 at 8:19 am (Uncategorized)

So apparently there is also a limit on the amount of mail you can send out in one time period as well! This is to prevent people from sending out mass loads on SPAM I guess. I learned this the hard way though, as I was sending mail to all of my contacts letting them know i changed my address…. Now it appears I cannot send any mail out for the next 24 hours….. haha….

Things are going->

June 27, 2009 at 5:49 am (Uncategorized)

This week things seem to be going well.  I have a lot of work left to do for school, but I know I will be able to get everything done.  On a brighter note, I have found a place to stay after July 21st.  My friend is going to go on vacation for a month and a half, and he offered to let me use his apartment while he is gone.  I’m pretty excited by the fact that I can stop searching for places to crash. I also found out the dates that we will being climbing Fuji-san! We will be doing the night hike (so we can watch the sun rise the next morning) on August 17th~18th.  I am really looking forward to this, as climbing Fuji-san has been a dream of mine since I was 13.

On another note, yesterday was Waseda’s Natsu Matsuri (translates to Summer Festival).  My friend Meiko entered into the Yukata Beauty Competition and took second place!  I will post up some pictures after I get them uploaded.  Last night was also the Shinnen nomikai (or New Student Drinking Party).  A few of us upper classmen went and met up with them at Toyama Koen afterwards for the afterparty.  I seemed like they all had a good time, and I am very proud of the ichi-nen who were excellent Kanji for this event.  Thanks again to all of you for your hard work!

Well, I’m about to head out to the Farwell trip for exchange students, so I’ll make sure to get some pictures uploaded sometime early next week.
